Urban photography:

With urban photography, my main focus is the composition. Taking into account things such as the rule of two thirds to create a more balanced image. There are 3 main goals in my urban photography. One is to take a photo that can be well translated into a piece of artwork, Second is to create a photo that is visually pleasing and lastly, to show the best that urban areas have to offer.

Cities such as Sydney and Rio de Janeiro are excellent to photograph, the blend between ocean and city in such an organic way allow for photographs with contrasting colours and photos that comply very well with the rule of two thirds.

Other cities such as London, New York and Chicago are dense, built up urban landscapes which make them photogenic for a variety of reasons. These cities are much denser than the aforementioned cities, this means photography can help capture a different environment through the use of the formal elements, in particular: perspective, composition and scale. This density is shown through the New York and Chicago photos in particular and through their composition. Unlike the Sydney and Rio photos, Buildings are much closer up and take up a larger portion of the screen. This is done by turning down the field of view to reflect the city’s characteristics.
